Every one of Karl's fingers is in a musical pie, his heartbeats are swung and the chemical composition of his sweat is nearly identical to that of vinyl cleaning fluid — something which the world's great scientists are working tirelessly to make sense of as we speak.
As a DJ, his record bags are stuffed with gems that span 70s jazz-funk to Brazilian samba, filthy fusion dance tracks to oddities on the edges of disco, afrobeat, house and more. He's a resident at London audiophile bar Spiritland and recent sets include We Out Here festival.
As the host of Deeper Cuts he has been shining a light on the broad spectrum of jazz and jazzish music in London for the past 9 years — the show moved to its current home Soho Radio in 2022.
He promotes a gig series, also called Deeper Cuts, which is a bi-monthly live night celebrating jazzish music at Paper Dress Vintage in Hackney. Guests so far include Maria Chiara Argirò, Awen Ensemble, Arjuna Oakes, Greg Surmacz, Hiro Ama, Angus Bayley, Johanna Burnheart and Audrey Powne.
And as a radio producer, Karl makes specialist music shows for the BBC including 'Round Midnight with Soweto Kinch, The Jazz Show with Jamie Cullum and For The Love of Hip Hop with Romesh Ranganathan (winner of Best Specialist Music Show at the 2023 ARIAs). Other credits include series for Jazz FM and BBC Sounds, podcasts and documentaries for the World Service,
Whether in the dance or on the airwaves, his goal is simply to share the good stuff — music to move you, or make you move.
